Five Years On, The General Public Still Wildly Misunderstands SARS-CoV-2
Last month, many acknowledged the fifth anniversary since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic in America. Since then, The Economist estimates that around 30 million people have died worldwide, and 400 million have suffered or are suffering from "Long COVID," an umbrella term for a range of medical issues that range in severity, including chronic fatigue and cognitive impairment. Even countless thousands of studies later from research teams around the world, we are still learning more about the impacts of the virus at a staggering rate.

After years of pouring over hundreds of medical research papers, it's become clear that as a collective whole we've made a serious misunderstanding in defining the COVID-19 pandemic & the impact this SARS-CoV-2 virus has had on our global population. While immediate deaths caused by acute COVID-19 have gone down significantly over the past few years, using this metric as the sole definition of a pandemic's beginning and end has constructed a false binary to obstruct society's comprehension of this disaster. Since 2020, outspoken voices have ignorantly raced to declare a pre-mature end to the pandemic. Tragically, too many have been rewarded quite lavishly for this foolishness while their fellow countrymen suffer.
While we want don't want to downplay the massive burden of death we've experienced this past half-decade, it's become clear that the primary threat of the SARS-CoV-2 virus to the majority of the population was the detrimental impacts on health caused by repeated infections with the virus - including the crossing of the blood-brain barrier causing "brain fog," damage to male reproductive organs causing erectile dysfunction, and weakening the immune system's ability to fight off other diseases. This only highlights the further need to develop and deploy mitigations to prevent transmission of the SARS-CoV-2 virus to safeguard our collective health. Instead, we were organized by the Biden Administration to embrace the virus repeatedly without sufficient protections.
The Viral Saboteur Brigade
The other primary directive of the Pandemic Accountability Index is to highlight the ignorance of outspoken voices who falsely present themselves as experts on the virus, whilst refusing to stay informed on the latest developments from medical researchers around the world. In fact, these voices often smear and insult these scientific and medical professionals - being especially vicious against women in STEM - only attacking others to elevate themselves: deeming their uninformed opinions superior to researched medicine. This is the gross misconduct that is being rewarded and elevated by our institutions in America, as actual hardworking scientists are being purged by formerly “dissident” scientists anti-vaccine quacks.
As COVID-19 boosters have been deprioritized, and immunity wanes while new variants continue to emerge, the revolting "Department of Government Efficiency" is attacking wastewater surveillance programs, used as an early warning system should another serious SARS-CoV-2 wave emerge. While unlikely, it's not impossible that this foolishness will leave hospitals overwhelmed in a future COVID-19 epidemic wave - and medical doctors who actually treat patients instead of running their mouth on social media left to clean up this mess. It's quite pitiful.
The unscientific fantasy that letting COVID-19 burn through the population repeatedly - killing and disabling many in the progress - would render the virus inert and harmless, continues to persist as part of this false binary of how pandemics operate - leaving many who might know better talking about COVID-19 in the past tense. In truth, many of these creeps who are engaged in destroying public health and purging scientists believe that deaths caused by infectious diseases should not be prevented, and that those disabled by viruses such as SARS-CoV-2 are merely faking as a grift. Their souls are so vapid and insecurities so rife, that they can only derive self-worth from a masturbatory display of pretending they hold some sort of inherent superiority over those harmed by COVID-19 and other diseases.
This is the mentality of a great deal of those that make up the new "Medical Establishment" in America, including Marty Makary of the Food & Drug Administration, his "Special Assistant" Tracy Beth Hoeg, the National Institute of Health Director Jay Bhattacharya, and numerous academics like Vinay Prasad of University of California San Francisco as well as "political scientists" like Stephen Macedo and Frances Lee of Princeton University, whose foolishness we've documented in extensive detail. Something is seriously wrong when childish behavior like theirs' is featured in the spotlight while hard-working scientists who do the important work are getting purged en-masse. Now, lifesaving vaccine and drug development is being gleefully sabotaged by many of these voices.
A Medical Failure Cascade in the Making
The toilet bowl licker responsible for this tweet above is the sort of completely unscientific, childish garbage that is training the next generation of medical professionals. When this is the example being set for them, we have to look at the bigger picture and consider the potential failure cascade on our horizon, when social media loudmouths start insisting upon writing off preventable, often humiliating deaths. Willful ignorance does not make for good medicine or science but can instead spiral out of control into a potential failure cascade which only contributes to negative outcomes for working American families. The next generation of medical students will be facing the long-term impacts of COVID-19 for potentially their entire professional career. This disease is not and never will be simply a "cold," but instead a thrombotic multi-system disease with impacts all over the body. When these students are completely misinformed by voices elevated by the medical establishment, then it will compromise their ability to detect health complications caused by an unmitigated SARS-CoV-2 virus and treat patients effectively. Worse yet, they'll unable to use effective treatments such as targeted anti-virals - because research funding for them was slashed.
What are we teaching these next generations of doctors? That if you put your nose to the grind and develop a lifesaving vaccine or treatment, like Peter Hotez or David Purino, you'll be smeared and attacked and threatened. If you exploit social media to spread thoughtless contrarian garbage, then you'll be rewarded with academic tenure, television appearances, and senior government roles like Stanford's Jay Bhattacharya and UCSF's Vinay Prasad.
This is the precise opposite of how a moral society should operate.
Foolish twerps like NIH Director Jay Bhattacharya imagined that a single COVID-19 infection, multiplied hundreds of millions of times over the American population, would render the SARS-CoV-2 virus inert. Now we're facing the challenges of an indefinite number of repeated COVID-19 infections over your child's lifetime, sometimes multiple times a year - and creeps like Bhattacharya are doing everything they can to sabotage our doctors' ability to treat the complications which will inevitably emerge as a result. When we look back in March 2030 with a decade of understanding about SARS-CoV-2's impacts, how ridiculous will we all look that we failed to shut this crap down before it was too late for too many?
An Alternative, Scientifically Informed Approach to COVID-19 & Public Health
Perspectives can change with the tides, much like how the orbit of the moon pulls our oceans in and out of the shore. While political manifestations of a "post-pandemic" narrative ultimately accomplished nothing but advancing the destructive agenda of the larger anti-vaccine crusade against the public's health, we at home can adjust our perspectives accordingly whenever we find the courage to do so.
In a combat unit, riflemen will employ a range of optics attachments in order to serve different tactical applications. Many use "red dot" optics which project a red laser onto glass to facilitate rapid target acquisition in a close quarters environment whilst lacking magnification, in order to ensure a soldier's unobstructed vision. Others may employ a sight with 16x or even 32x magnification in order to engage targets at extreme ranges, with a combat spotter at their side to compensate for their limited perspective. The wrong optic can compromise a soldier's effectiveness depending on what they encounter in the field - many long-range marksmen will employ a smaller "canted" red-dot attached to their rifle at an angle in case of emergency. Improperly issued equipment can get soldiers killed.
Much like how former Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld shrugged off combat deaths caused by sending American soldiers to fight and occupy Iraq (on false pretenses) for an extended period of time with inadequate body armor, the American public has been issued an improper set of tools to reckon with the COVID-19 pandemic & the challenges it presents to all of us. Too many Americans have paid a horrific price as part of this indefensible obscenity, and yet we're repeating the same apathy regarding the mismanagement of the COVID-19 pandemic. How does this ring any different from the smug dismissal of serious concerns about the SARS-CoV-2 virus by the Great Barrington Declaration and their ilk, who were happy to march everyday Americans to their deaths? Or the countless unvaccinated children disabled by COVID-19 as a 79-year-old Biden bragged about ending the pandemic? As the federal public health instructions have been compromised and effectively gone rogue, independent institutions will be required to shoulder the burden of the void created by the long-running collective abandonment of the United States government, and their direct obligations to American families.
For there to be a future in America, we'll have to radically re-shift our perspective going forward, and that includes engaging with the well-documented burdens posed by the SARS-CoV-2 virus. There's simply no other way around it.
