Over the past years, millions of words have been spilled on just what to do about the ongoing SARS-CoV-2 disaster. The loudest voices are often those who have had no responsibility or real contributions to make, but instead have very wealthy backers & good connections to get them primetime spots on cable news or astroturfed on social media. Jay Bhattacharya & Martin Kuldorff of the Great Barrington Declaration, (GBD) or Monica Gandhi & Vinay Prasad of the University of California San Francisco (UCSF) are just a few great examples of over-platformed armchair pandemic generals, who are using the millions of dead and disabled as a launching pad for their future careers. Their plan for the next pandemic is simple: do nothing, mass infect everyone who isn't wealthy enough to isolate, and shrug our collective shoulders that the massive amount of dead and disabled were simply inevitable - "virus gonna virus y'all," and we shouldn't waste our time preventing these deaths. The permanent underclass shoulders the burden for the comfort and luxury of a privileged few - more akin to theocratic monarchism, than free-thinking democracy.
Of course, these do-nothing pundits have very rich friends and will be in the privileged "laptop class" that is subjected to the GBD's "focused protection," sitting at home on their couch laughing it up over Zoom calls, getting all of life's essentials delivered - while you and your families suffer, die, and/or wind up disabled. These are not working medical doctors who see patients and have real responsibilities - they get to treat the pandemic as an abstract exercise; more focused on social media engagement and lining their own wallets than protecting the public's health. With years of proclamations, predictions, and bold claims under their belt, it's time somebody actually sat down and reviewed all of them.
We Want Them Infected is from a sort of voice that actually has been silenced by the media - the frontline doctors and nurses who have struggled so hard to save lives these past few years. Dr. Jonathan Howard brings you all the way back to the horrors of early 2020 in New York City - a viral Pearl Harbor, even. One that would have drowned the entire nation had extreme measures not been taken. Rightoid billionaires like Jeffrey Tucker and his Brownstone Institute even today labor to rewrite history, saying that the freezer trucks and mass graves for the overwhelming number of casualties were simply a figment of our imaginations - and that by rapidly multiplying this staggering number of casualties, we would have quickly returned to a utopian 2019 "normalcy."
The second chapter of WWTI should frankly be required reading in any academic course covering the pandemic - as we so readily forget what a rapidly chaotic situation New York City had found itself in, as Dr. Howard takes us alongside him through the medicinal trenches of early 2020 - including doctors becoming so overwhelmed that they took their own life. These real American heroes have had their names soon forgotten, but we're stuck with hack frauds like Leana Wen or David Leonhardt rambling on in a madman's crusade against the very concept of Public Health itself. Frontline doctors knew from the very beginning that COVID-19 was neither a cold or a flu, yet "Culture Writer" Emma Greene insists that we treat it is another "inevitable seasonal yuck," when she has never donned scrubs or opened a medical textbook. There are so many names of pro-viral influencers that have cashed in on being sycophants for a deadly and disabling virus, it's hard to remember them all - and on a side note, what the Pandemic Accountability Index is dedicated to documenting. What a lot of Americans have forgotten is how immediately the American pandemic response was sabotaged by do-nothing delusional diddlers. Voices like John Ionaddis, Trump's Scott Atlas, and the UK's Francois Balloux (profiled here) were all immediately at work convincing the public to learn to love the virus - and mass-infect all of our children with it, repeatedly. Dr. Howard's We Want Them Infected performs a thorough and overwhelming autopsy of so many of these ridiculous and obscene claims made about a brand new virus that was killing and crippling in rapid fashion, with no evidence to support them. None of these voices ended up apologizing for getting things so wrong, and yet so many of them continue to take up space on television and social media, drowning out any sort of true accountability & accepting the responsibility that we failed so many millions of Americans.
WWTI covers SARS-CoV-2 punditry from 2020 all the way through 2022, and Dr. Jonathan pulls no punches when it comes to those such as GBD's Jay Bhattcharya when they embraced tired, old anti-vaccine rhetoric from many years ago to grow & radicalize their audience of anti-public health maniacs, already trying to incite a riot at school board meetings across the country. A common thread between many of these laptop class pro-viral pundits is that they all speak with outright certainty and a disgusting yet completely unearned overconfidence - when they do nothing but speak.
The Great Barrington Declaration, Marty Makary's "Herd Immunity by April," the "Urgency of Normal," Vinay Prasad saying public health is the roadmap to a Fourth Reich - all of these pro-viral bullshit campaigns are taken to task by Dr. Jonathan, who never shies away from the very human cost of entertaining these charlatans - including violent threats, assault, and even murder, as well as driving countless people out of medicine and public health professions. None of these pro-viral influencers have ever apologized for the consequences of this rhetoric, as they gleefully admit that this is their goal. Beheading doctors, nurses, and public health workers trying to save lives - whilst coronating plague-worshipping layabouts as grand savants of wisdom.
Howard's tome is an atomic bomb on this entire fantasy realm of "do nothing" anti-Public-Health fiction. As the discourse devolves into unhinged conspiracy theories about "mask-induced Long COVID," or "clot shots" or whatever else unscientific nonsense, We Want Them Infected is a full Emperor Has No Clothes moment for so many of these newfound pandemic "celebrities." In a just world, it would be the end for public-facing pro-viral influencers such as Monica Gandhi, who Howard skewers atop a pyre made of her own narcissistic and uncaring words.
Many new celebrities like Vinay Prasad, Simone Gold, Sunetra Gupta, Scott Atlas, Allison Krug, Tracy Beth Hoeg, Kelly Brogan, Lucy McBride, John Mandrola, Zubin Damania, Marty Makary, Jay Bhattacharya, Martin Kuldorff, and Florida's favorite serial liar Joseph Ladapo all are rightfully burned alive by their own words in WWTI - none of these freaks ever came close to getting it right on SARS-CoV-2, and yet mainstream media publications like the Washington Post, The Atlantic, and The New York Times are more than happy to hand the future of public health to these charlatans. Charlatans that expend so much energy misleading their audiences about topics they themselves know very little about.
On the flipside, Dr. Jonathan Howard is more than happy to thoroughly explain certain terms and concepts like "Randomized Control Trials" and “myocarditis” to a more general audience that may have not heard of them before, and in great detail - contrasted with the fictions that pro-viral influencers profess with a religious zealotry. Whereas pandemic pundits like Vinay Prasad use their audience's scientific illiteracy as a tool to mislead the public, Dr. Howard is more than happy to fully explain something like the "VAERS" database (Vaccine Adverse Event Reporting System) - and what they really mean, instead of making arguments that rely upon lies of omission. You actually do learn a great deal reading We Want Them Infected about SARS-CoV-2, public health, and the larger pandemic world - and thus better equipped to refute the memetic virus of "disease good, prevention bad" that has swallowed American discourse as of late.
Sooner rather than later, We Want Them Infected is hopefully adapted into a theatrical documentary. The painful contrast of doctors and nurses like Dr. Jonathan Howard and his colleagues struggling to save lives, whilst talk-much, do-nada ramblers stole critical space on television and social media to spread disastrous lies and falsehoods is incredible and important imagery that needs to be drilled into the heart of every American. In the void of disinformation, we see a growing shortage of doctors, nurses, and public health workers driven out of their careers by tidal waves of abuse and violence at the hands of bloodthirsty plague cultists, driven into zealous rage by pro-viral cenobites. No civilized society can survive without doctors and nurses, much less teachers - who pro-COVID influencers also agree should have their health & lives ground into dust.
