Welcome to the PAI.
We live in quite exciting times, with multiple diseases running rampant - whether it be COVID and its constant mutations, monkeypox, RSV, norovirus, ebola, and just today I was reading about someone who died days after contracting something called “Black Hairy Tongue” (after a breakthrough COVID infection in September, admittedly.) It’s a scary time to be alive, and most of us didn’t go to med school, or ever put on scrubs or open a medical textbook. That fear you’re feeling is your natural response to danger, the same fear you might feel encountering a shark at the beach, or a bear on a mountain trail.
Mother Nature is a massive and all-encompassing entity that we as human beings are a part of, alongside everything from giant mammals (did you know that hippos kill over 500 human beings each year, compared to lions with only 250 kills, on average?) all the way down to microscopic viruses. These are all impressively complicated and fascinating beings, just like yourself. They all operate alongside certain sets of rules and behavior, and over the years, we human beings have tried our best to not be eaten alive - according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, over 11,600 are employed nationwide to serve as Animal Control Workers.
There’s also general understanding that letting alligators or bears run unchecked through our communities is a net-negative and would do incredible amounts of harm. We also employ epidemiologists, virologists, and other public health experts to try and prevent the spread of deadly and disabling diseases through our communities, such as the bubonic plague which to this day still pops up in the United States from time to time. Most Americans until 2020 lived their lives in complete ignorance of the existence of public health in society and their daily lives, because believe it or not, they were generally pretty good at their job, and usually allowed to do so without much interference. I fully expect to eat my words on that last sentence, but alas.
In the beginning of 2020, a new virus appeared and rapidly spread through the United States (and the rest of the world, obviously, starting with China) that started killing a massive number of people, very quickly. This was met with complete and total incompetence of a response on federal, state, and local levels. You have Trump making a mockery of the whole scene, state governors such as Cuomo in New York ramming COVID patients into nursing homes, racking up massive amounts of death, and a complete and total failure to provide doctors, nurses, and other healthcare workers with adequate PPE.
Freezer trucks and mass graves were loaded with bodies in New York City, and the rest of the nation soon followed. As a society, we were thrown headfirst into a once-in-a-century disaster against a new disease we struggled to understand. Many healthcare experts, researchers, epidemiologists, virologists, immunologists, and others who spend an incredible amount of years learning how to fight disease were hard at work, struggling to understand COVID. Believe it or not, it takes time to “do the science,” and develop treatments, vaccines, best practices, etc. - and until we grow a more complete understanding, the rest of us are left in a bit of a void - hence the development and adoption of something called the precautionary principle - used to develop policy that prevents as much harm as possible until we “have the tools,” so to speak. The history of HIV/AIDS is a great example of this - it took multiple years before it was understood that women could be infected as well.
But what if… and just bear with me on this one… just what if…
…what if I just made a bunch of shit up?
And what if, from that bullshit I pulled out of my ass, was justification for absolutely horrific & moronic policies gestated from the plague-ridden minds of deranged excuses for political leaders, which then led to an incredible amount of harm and suffering? Wouldn’t you be a little mad? Wouldn’t you wish that I be held accountable for the delusions and derangement that my completely fictional diatribes inflicted in your fellow citizen, maybe even your friend, or family member?
We’re on the cusp of Year 04 of the COVID-19 pandemic, and we are drowning in a mountain of what can only be described as a truly impressive mountain of complete and total fiction, loosely if at all rooted in any sort of science. There was a rush, largely funded by deranged rightoid billionaire freaks such as Peter Thiel or David Koch, to fill the void of reliable, factual information about COVID-19 with complete and total fiction, and it has been delivered to the public through such pathetic excuses for oracles such as Vinay Prasad, Emily Oster, and others.
Many of these supposed pandemic influencers aren’t even medical experts at all, and in fact, largely use the ongoing pandemic as an excuse to scream at actual women - who actually did the work to go to med school and learn the science around understanding COVID - all day. Don’t worry, they’ll get their own entries too.
The public deserves a registry of the fraudsters, grifters, bullshit artists, and frankly, saboteurs of the public’s general health - along with a catalogue of all of the lies they’ve spilled for what can only be described now as blood money - whether it be billionaire funding, speaking engagements, Substack grifts, etc. - and the public, many of which are parents who had perfectly healthy children before the pandemic and now have a child who has been crippled or injured by Long COVID induced chronic fatigue, cognitive or neurological disorders, among other symptoms.
These records, with names, faces, locations, and employers - will be maintained, permanently, for public review. If you’re so confident about the elaborate fiction around COVID-19 you’ve centered your entire identity around, then you shouldn’t fear any sort of “consequences” - professionally, personally, or otherwise. As children and families are repeatedly infected with the virus and suffer permanent brain & organ damage over the next few or several years, public attitudes around these self-appointed pandemic “influencers” are going to change, rest assured.
Do with this information what you will. We here at the PAI will alternate between exposés, and commentary, with the latter being a little more shooting from the hip and hopefully somewhat more entertaining, if you don’t mind a pinch of vulgarity. Strap in, because this is going to be a ride.
