What Dr. Jonathan Howard of Science Based Medicine refers to as the COVID Amnesia Project has taken on a new form, this time on the liberal side of the aisle. With the 2028 Democrat Presidential Primary looming on the horizon, certain frontrunners are trying their best to win over early public support and establish their “electability,” a fictionalized concept propped up by overpaid political consultants. This is leading to certain progressive candidates foolishly taking more reactionary views and turning their back on their most dedicated supporters and showing a lack of commitment to any real political vision of the future.
Trump & AOC Agree: “Woke” Bad!
On ABC’s This Week with George Stephanopoulos, Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez responded to a question about her previous support for “defund the police,” or reducing bloated police budgets. She brushed off any sort of serious engagement of the concerns many Americans have, especially with the domestic terror campaign the Trump Administration has waged against the American public, with simply:
“During lockdown, of course, rhetoric in that time is not rhetoric that we would use today.”
This is quite concerning, as while America did have limited stay-at-home orders and remote schooling in 2020, we did not implement any serious “lockdowns,” especially when compared to other nations which employed much stricter measures. It was the conservative think tank AIER who campaigned to brand any form of public health intervention as a “lockdown” that does nothing except grave harms. Is AOC implying that our limited use of non-pharmaceutical interventions drove everyone crazy? In another clip, she repeated a colleague stating “Woke 1 was crazy:” a nasty reactionary framing and gross rewriting of a long and painful history:
It’s upsetting to see Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez publicly admit on camera that she is now aligned with the Trump Administration’s bizarre hatred of anything “woke,” a political term originally coined by Black Americans to reckon with the racial oppression they have faced all throughout America’s history. Now, “woke” means anything Trump & his cronies don’t personally like and must be destroyed. This is not leadership. This is the mind poison of liberal “Centrism” at work: Letting yourself be dragged further and further to the right like a dog on a leash.
Just Where Did “Defund the Police” Come From?
In the leadup to 2020, years of brutal executions of unarmed (mostly Black, with some exceptions) Americans, including children, led to a wave of nationwide protests against police violence. Taking a critical look at municipal budgets, police funding is disproportionately obscene compared to other much more essential services. This taxpayer money is often dedicated to purchasing military hardware that is much more appropriate for a paramilitary occupation than a civilian policing force. A great example of this is the evolution of the LEGO police Minifig over the decades:
It’s worth noting that the law is not enforced equally in America: the nation’s greatest form of larceny, wage theft, is almost entirely unprosecuted. Former Attorney General Eric Holder’s 1999 “Collateral Consequences” memo - which argues for replacing federal prosecution with paltry fines - is now the standard for letting private corporations such as Facebook flagrantly and repeatedly violate the law. The entire genAI “industry” is built upon colossal amounts of theft that federal authorities pretend isn’t a crime. On the opposite end of the nation, the essentials the homeless need to survive are regularly destroyed by police-led sweeps, with no real help offered. Broke single mothers driven to shoplifting baby formula and diapers just to survive, however, are slapped with lifelong criminal records and the lowest moment of their life is turned into monetized social media content.
In the 2020 general election, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez threw her full support behind Joe “Shoot Them in the Leg” Biden, who previously championed the invasion and occupation of Iraq - in which hundreds of thousands of Muslim lives were slaughtered in a war based on false claims of weapons of mass destruction, as well as horrific torture camps. In exchange, Biden pledged to veto Medicare-for-All and zero support for other polices AOC claims to support. At the same time, the Brennan Center’s Mike German would publish a report titled: “Hidden in Plan Sight: Racism, White Supremacy, and Far-Right Militancy in Law Enforcement: The government’s response to known connections of law enforcement officers to violent racist and militant groups has been strikingly insufficiently.” In summary: America’s police departments are chock full of neo-Nazi pigs. The total lack of impact this report will have on Democrat policymaking is astounding.
The American Rescue Sham: Arm Nazis, Abandon Schools
Having crushed & humiliated the progressives, Biden would narrowly secure a Presidential election victory that came down to ~40,000 votes in a few key swing districts. Taking office in 2021, one of Biden’s first priorities was a pandemic relief bill named the American Rescue Plan Act. Now one might understandably conceive that the number one priority of a pandemic relief bill would be to prevent COVID-19 deaths. Alas, we are not dealing with logical thinkers.
Here are some creative thinking challenges: Just how many COVID-19 deaths can be prevented by an AR-15 assault rifle? Can we train the next generation of doctors on shooting ranges? What purpose does an armored personnel carrier serve in preventing COVID-19 deaths? Do surveillance drones help get vaccines into peoples’ arms? How about $350 billion for all of this, nationwide? Even better, much of this money goes to an AI surveillance firm so that cops can stalk and harass their partners & exes!
American schools, on the other hand, received less than half that amount with a paltry $123 billion in comparison for “general purposes,” which instead of being used to help schools protect students & teachers from COVID-19 outbreaks, largely went to renovating football fields and contracts with standardized testing companies. This does not end well in the 2021-22 school year, with hundreds of children dying and many more disabled as unsafe schools drown in COVID-19. It does however lead to Joe Biden whining in January 2022:
“We purchased 20 million of these new Pfizer pills ... We’re not going back to closing schools. Schools should stay open.”
This did not keep schools open. Paxlovid, a COVID-19 antiviral from Pfizer, cannot be given to young children. It does nothing to prevent infections or keeping schools functioning normally. Weeks later, Biden will double down during the 2022 State of the Union on diverting even more pandemic relief funding to buy military toys for white supremacists to terrorize their communities:
“We should all agree the answer is not to defund the police. It’s to fund the police. Fund them. Fund them. Fund them”
Oops, Unelectable!
Having dumped hundreds of billions of dollars of military hardware into violent white supremacists, the Democrats did not become any more electable in 2024. They will find themselves completely humiliated in the 2024 election, losing every single swing state - even after all the cute sunglass selfies AOC took with a champion of endless war. Hundreds of thousands died and millions were disabled by the virus the Democrats campaigned on dealing with. Biden’s pitiful political career would end in a pathetic whimper as little more than further expanding upon the turnkey tyranny he spent decades building, only to casually toss the keys to Donald Trump yet again.
Perhaps Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez would like to go door to door to the working-class Black and brown families of Queens and the Bronx that she once claimed to represent and explain just why it’s so important to put even more military hardware in the hands of white supremacists, especially over funding public education. After proving she has no real commitment to realizing a Green New Deal or Medicare for All, AOC is now choosing to defend “MAHA activists.” Having largely abandoned all the positions that made a name for herself to instead prove her loyalty to Democrat leadership, the Right isn’t contemplating supporting AOC for President; they are instead loudly laughing at her showing that she stands for nothing.
To imply that “lockdowns” drove people mad into demanding to divert police funding to more constructive purposes is utterly ridiculous. We’ve already suffered through years and years of absurd propaganda that “lockdowns” caused all sorts of horrors, including widespread suicides, far worse than COVID-19 itself. It helps nobody to imply they’re responsible for critics against unbalanced municipal budgets used to purchase military toys for white supremacists.
If you simply cannot articulate & commit to a meaningful and constructive alternative to MAGA’s sadistic and cruel worldview, then you will do nothing more than achieve the same humiliating defeats that Democrats suffered in 2016 and 2024, with only Trump’s mismanagement of COVID-19 resulting in a narrow victory. Liberal austerity and corporate handouts, most notably to arms manufacturers, is simply no longer a viable electoral strategy. Failing to reckon with this national reality leaves one flailing about, blaming “lockdowns” for political views the majority of Americans support.
The lessons to be learned from the early years of the COVID-19 pandemic, and Biden’s failed response, are instead being drowned out by reactionary myths.
